Trump Mentions ‘Jail’ For J6 Committee as Biden Considers Pardons For Fauci, Cheney, Others: Report

In his first sit-down interview since winning the presidential election, Donald Trump told NBC News’ Meet the Press that he remains committed to pardoning individuals convicted for their roles in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Trump also said members of the Democrat-led House committee that investigated the incident “should go to jail,” specifically naming former Rep. Liz Cheney. However, he said he would not personally direct the FBI or Justice Department to pursue charges, adding that such decisions would be left to law enforcement officials while he focuses on policy priorities.

Trump also outlined plans to pursue tougher immigration measures, including mass deportations and possible executive action aimed at ending birthright citizenship, an idea likely to face constitutional challenges. He argued that enforcing immigration laws is necessary to ensure fairness for those who legally wait years to enter the country. At the same time, Trump said he wants to “work something out” for so-called Dreamers, immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children, signaling openness to a targeted solution.

Pressed on whether he would seek retribution against President Joe Biden, Trump said he is focused on moving the country forward, stating, “Retribution will be through success.” He added that any investigations would be decisions for his attorney general and FBI director nominees. Trump also defended his support for tariffs, disputing warnings that costs would be passed on to consumers and pointing to economic performance during his first term.
