Illegal Alien Attacks ICE Agent — Courtroom Erupts…

An illegal immigrant from Mexico will spend decades in federal prison after assaulting an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent during an arrest attempt in Wichita, Kansas. Diego Barron-Esquivel received the maximum 20-year sentence for forcibly attacking a federal officer, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Officials say the case reflects a broader rise in violence targeting immigration officers nationwide, with DHS warning that assaults against ICE agents have increased sharply in recent years.

Authorities said Barron-Esquivel resisted arrest on Feb. 28 when ICE agents attempted to take him into custody. During the encounter, he assaulted one of the officers before fleeing the scene. He was later apprehended by local law enforcement. DHS stated that Barron-Esquivel entered the United States illegally at an unknown time and location and has a lengthy criminal record, including arrests related to domestic violence, theft, robbery, and drug-related offenses.

Barron-Esquivel pleaded guilty on Dec. 3 to one count of forcibly assaulting a federal officer. Senior Trump administration officials say the sentence sends a clear message that attacks on law enforcement will be punished severely. The administration has reported hundreds of assaults on ICE personnel since President Donald Trump returned to office, calling the trend a major public safety concern. Officials argue that firm enforcement and strict penalties are necessary to protect federal officers and deter future attacks.
