Fox News reported that a source linked to the Trump administration claims Senator Adam Schiff, a California Democrat, is under federal investigation for possible mortgage fraud. According to Laura Ingraham, who announced the story on “The Ingraham Angle,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Maryland is allegedly reviewing a criminal referral from the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA). The referral reportedly accuses Schiff of submitting falsified bank and property documents in order to secure more favorable mortgage terms.
Fox News cited documents suggesting that SCHIFF may have repeatedly listed a home in Montgomery County, Maryland, as his primary residence, even while representing California in Congress. Records referenced in the reporting indicate that Schiff identified the Maryland home as his principal residence during multiple refinancing applications between 2009 and 2013. At the same time, according to media accounts mentioned in the Fox report, Schiff also claimed a homeowner’s tax exemption on a condominium in Burbank, California, by designating it as his primary residence.
The FHFA director’s letter to the Department of Justice allegedly argues that Schiff’s conduct could constitute violations of federal statutes governing bank fraud, wire fraud, and false statements. A memo cited by Fox News further alleges a “sustained pattern of possible occupancy misrepresentation” involving several Fannie Mae-backed loans. Schiff’s office, according to Fox News Digital, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
