Rep. Al Green of Texas, known for his previous impeachment attempts against President Donald Trump during Trump’s first term, launched a new impeachment effort in 2025. Speaking passionately on the House floor, Green accused Trump of making statements that he described as “ethnic cleansing in Gaza,” condemning both the president and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He argued that such rhetoric constituted a serious moral and political failure, invoking the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to emphasize that injustice abroad threatens justice at home.
Green declared that his impeachment push would be driven by grassroots support rather than party leadership, insisting that public pressure would ultimately force action. He portrayed himself as willing to stand alone for justice, asserting that his prior impeachment attempts laid the groundwork for Trump’s historical impeachment. Despite his resolve, Democratic leaders appeared cool to his new initiative. House Democratic Caucus Chair Peter Aguilar stated that impeachment was not a current focus for the caucus.
At the same time, President Trump issued a stark warning to Iran, claiming the country would be “obliterated” if it attempted to assassinate him. The Justice Department had previously revealed an Iranian-directed plot targeting Trump, involving Farhad Shakeri, an Iranian national now believed to be living in Iran and still at large.
