Trump Gets Off Phone With Zohran Mandani — Makes A…

In a wide-ranging interview on “Inside City Hall” Tuesday night, Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani said he has reconnected with former President Donald Trump following their White House meeting last month. Mamdani emphasized that their conversations have centered on the welfare of New Yorkers, particularly amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. He also expressed condolences regarding the attack on two National Guardsmen, one of whom later died, calling it a “horrific attack” and highlighting the need for action on housing in the city. Despite recent federal immigration raids, Mamdani said he will continue protesting ICE’s actions, which he describes as “cruel and inhumane.”

Mamdani also met with outgoing Mayor Eric Adams to discuss the transition of power, focusing on a smooth handover for New Yorkers. He indicated he might retain some Adams administration officials, including Schools Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos, praising their work regardless of who appointed them. As his team reviews roughly 70,000 résumés for incoming administration roles, Mamdani is also considering whether to live in the city-owned Gracie Mansion, while currently residing in a rent-controlled unit in Astoria, Queens.

On policy, Mamdani maintains a cordial relationship with Gov. Kathy Hochul but opposes her approval of a natural gas pipeline through the outer boroughs. He frames this as part of a climate-focused agenda, though critics note natural gas is both affordable and one of the cleanest-burning fossil fuels. Mamdani said he will continue advocating for housing affordability and climate action in New York City.
