President Donald Trump is again urging Senate Republicans to eliminate the filibuster, posting a video on Truth Social that featured former Attorney General Eric Holder discussing the possibility of expanding the Supreme Court if Democrats win full control of government in 2028. Trump labeled Holder an “Obama sycophant” and claimed Democrats want as many as 21 “Radical Left Activist Judges,” insisting that only ending the filibuster would prevent them from packing the Court. He argued that scrapping the rule would not only block Democratic plans but also help Republicans secure victories in the 2026 midterms and the 2028 presidential election.
Trump’s comments come as he increasingly targets former President Barack Obama and his allies. His newly appointed interim U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York, John A. Sarcone III, has a history of inflammatory posts, including calling Joe Biden a “traitor” and suggesting Obama should be “the first illegal alien deported.” Despite lacking prosecutorial experience, Sarcone was installed without Senate confirmation and defended his qualifications by saying that judgment, not résumé length, defines an effective prosecutor.
Sarcone outlined priorities such as strengthening the northern border, combating lawlessness, and addressing corruption and fraud. He also signaled possible scrutiny of Upstate colleges, vowing to protect students from threats or harassment related to their religious beliefs.
