Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich warned in a recent Fox News interview that what he described as increasingly extreme rhetoric and behavior from Democrats could lead to “something serious” against President Donald Trump, especially following two failed attempts on Trump’s life. Gingrich argued that Democratic leaders, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, are offering “no solutions” and are driven by anger over Trump’s efforts—alongside figures like Elon Musk—to challenge government spending and what he calls a corrupt system. He accused the left of believing they have a right to break the law or even use violence to influence political outcomes.
Gingrich criticized Democrats in Congress for refusing to applaud even nonpolitical moments, calling their behavior “bizarre” and disconnected from ordinary Americans. Citing polling from his America’s New Majority project, he claimed that 82% of Americans believe the political system is corrupt, which he argued puts Democrats at a disadvantage heading into the 2026 elections. He said the party is defending bureaucracy, waste, and entrenched interests at a time when public trust is collapsing.
He contrasted what he called the “destructiveness” of Democratic leadership with the “focus on peace” from Trump and his team, framing this difference as a major theme heading into the upcoming midterm elections.
