‘Sanctuary City’ Mayor Threatens Homeland Securi…

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem delivered a sharp warning Tuesday to Portland Mayor Keith Wilson, saying federal authorities are prepared to dramatically increase their presence in the city if local leaders continue resisting cooperation with federal security operations. During a visit to Portland’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility — a frequent target of protests — Noem said she left talks with Wilson “extremely disappointed,” accusing him of prioritizing politics over public safety. She told Fox News that if city officials fail to meet federal security demands, the administration would respond by sending “four times the amount of federal officers” to Portland.

Speaking alongside federal agents, Noem accused the mayor of endangering both residents and law enforcement by hesitating to act. She claimed unrest around the ICE facility was being fueled by “professional terrorists,” echoing the administration’s broader argument that organized agitators are deliberately targeting federal sites. According to Noem, local leaders underestimate the threat and misunderstand the scale of federal resolve, warning that inaction would lead to an aggressive escalation rather than compromise.

Wilson later responded in a written statement, calling the meeting “cordial but deeply concerning.” He rejected claims that Portland is out of control and criticized federal tactics as troubling and potentially unconstitutional. The confrontation comes as a federal judge temporarily blocked the administration’s plan to deploy National Guard troops, a decision now under appeal, underscoring the deepening standoff between federal and local authorities.
